This website has been built to conform to standards for accessibility and coding set by The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This means that every page is constructed to the current standard set. This site is designed to be used by anybody and conforms to the 'A' priorities of the WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative) as set out by the w3.

In short, this means that this website has been designed to be usable by all. This site also caters for users viewing pages on a screenreader (an application that reads out a website's content).

The Rescue Service website follows the UK government's guidelines for access keys. Access keys provide keyboard shortcuts and offer you an alternative way of navigating around the site.

To use access keys:

  • Press and hold the 'Alt' key (Shift-Alt for Firefox)
  • Press the letter or number of the access key as listed below
  • Press the return key. You should now be redirected to the page you require.

If you are using a Macintosh system, you must press the 'Ctrl' key and the access key.
